AG Martha Coakley fines Burger King franchisee for child labor violationsMHC Services LLC, a West Springfield-based company that operates seven franchised Burger King restaurants in Western Massachusetts, has been fined $50,000 for multiple violations of Massachusetts Child Labor Laws, the office of state Attorney General Martha Coakley said Friday. According to Coakley’s office, minors allegedly worked more hours and later than the state’s labor laws allow. MHC “fully cooperated” with the attorney general’s investigation, Coakley’s office said. | |||

Boston Scientific plans to relocate its HQ and 800 employees from Natick to Marlborough --- it also agrees to buy Calif. companyBoston Scientific Corp. a medical device company now headquartered in Natick, said Thursday that it plans to move its headquarters and about 800 employees to Marlborough. The consolidation will take place in phases, starting next spring. Boston Scientific expects that its employees will be essentially moved out of the Natick facility by mid 2014. Separately, Boston Scientific said it has agreed to buy Vessix Vascular Inc., a California company specializing in balloon catheter technology. The deal that could be worth as much as $425 million. | |||
Marsh & McLennan buys the Protector Group Insurance Agency of WorcesterMarsh & McLennan Agency LLC, or MMA, said Thursday that it has acquired the Protector Group Insurance Agency of Worcester for an undisclosed amount. Founded in 1928, Protector Group is one of the largest independent agencies in New England, with about $13.6 million in annual revenues and 84 employees. The firm also has offices in Leominster and Wellesley. | |||
Keurig teams up with Lavazza on a single-serve cappuccino, latte, and espresso brewing systemThe Keurig coffee K-Cup brand, which has operations in Massachusetts, is introducing a system that will brew single-serve espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes in collaboration with Luigi Lavazza SpA, known for its Lavazza Italian coffee brand. The announcement was made by Lavazza and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc., Keurig’s Vermont-based parent company. K-Cups, which produce one cup of coffee at a time in Green Mountain’s Keurig brewers, are the most profitable segment of the Green Mountain’s business. | |||
