Nov. 20, 2012 More than 40 potential bidders have expressed interest in buying Upper Crust, the bankrupt pizza chainMore than 40 potential bidders have expressed interest in buying the Upper Crust pizza business, according to Mark DeGiacomo, the trustee overseeing the bankruptcy of the Boston-based chain. DeGiacomo plans to auction off leases for all 10 shuttered Upper Crust stores that are part of the bankruptcy, as well as related assets at each location. Details of the auction are still being worked out, but the trustee plans to file a motion to sell early next week. | |||

The development would bring 503 apartments to the city’s West End, where several developers are seeking to move forward with large housing and retail projects. AvalonBay outlined new details of its plan in a filing released Tuesday by the Boston Redevelopment Authority, which must approve the project before construction can begin. | |||

4,000 Mass. homeowners benefit from mortgage settlementNearly 4,000 Massachusetts borrowers have received some kind of housing-debt relief this year as part of a national mortgage settlement involving five major lenders, with each homeowner averaging about $67,457 in financial assistance, according to federal report released Monday. Massachusetts borrowers received $266 million of the more than $21.92 billion disbursed nationally as part of the settlement over improper foreclosure proceedings, according to the preliminary report by the Office of Mortgage Settlement Oversight. Across the US, some 278,000 borrowers got an average of $78,739 through various forms of assistance, including mortgage loan modifications, balance writedowns, and short sales. | |||
States charges Cape Cod man with fraud, saying he used investors’ money to buy real estateSecretary of State William F. Galvin has charged a Cape Cod man with civil fraud for allegedly running a real estate scheme in which he took more than $1.2 million from 25 Massachusetts investors. According to a complaint filed Monday, James R. Cruise Jr., 55, of Centerville, sold unregistered promissory notes to investors through his company, The Austin Group, over two decades. While promising to pay investors interest of up to 15 percent, Cruise actually used the money they gave him to buy real estate, according to the state. | |||
Click and Clack of ‘Car Talk’ fame will live on in reruns on SiriusXM Public RadioSirius XM Radio Inc., a national satellite radio service with 23.4 million subscribers, said it will begin regularly airing reruns of “Car Talk,” the long-running public radio show that starred Tom and Ray Magliozzi, also known as Click and Clack, the Tappet Brothers. The reruns will be heard on SiriusXM Public Radio, one of the company’s more than 130 channels. The plan is to air three back-to-back episodes from the show’s 25-year history on Mondays through Fridays. | |||
