Boston Scientific plans to relocate its HQ and 800 employees from Natick to Marlborough --- it also agrees to buy Calif. company

Boston Scientific Corp. a medical device company now headquartered in Natick, said Thursday that it plans to move its headquarters and about 800 employees to Marlborough. The consolidation will take place in phases, starting next spring. Boston Scientific expects that its employees will be essentially moved out of the Natick facility by mid 2014. Separately, Boston Scientific said it has agreed to buy Vessix Vascular Inc., a California company specializing in balloon catheter technology. The deal that could be worth as much as $425 million.

Marsh & McLennan buys the Protector Group Insurance Agency of Worcester

Marsh & McLennan Agency LLC, or MMA, said Thursday that it has acquired the Protector Group Insurance Agency of Worcester for an undisclosed amount. Founded in 1928, Protector Group is one of the largest independent agencies in New England, with about $13.6 million in annual revenues and 84 employees. The firm also has offices in Leominster and Wellesley.

Keurig teams up with Lavazza on a single-serve cappuccino, latte, and espresso brewing system

The Keurig coffee K-Cup brand, which has operations in Massachusetts, is introducing a system that will brew single-serve espressos, cappuccinos, and lattes in collaboration with Luigi Lavazza SpA, known for its Lavazza Italian coffee brand. The announcement was made by Lavazza and Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc., Keurig’s Vermont-based parent company. K-Cups, which produce one cup of coffee at a time in Green Mountain’s Keurig brewers, are the most profitable segment of the Green Mountain’s business.

See’s Candies said it is opening temporary “gift centers” for the holidays at Natick Mall, the Northshore Mall in Peabody, the Shops at Prudential Center in Boston, the Mall at Chestnut Hill, Burlingtonton Mall, Wayside Commons in Burlington, and Solomon Pond in Marlborough.

Deeply down day on the Dow as post-election fiscal reality hits Wall Street

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell sharply Wednesday following President Obama’s re-election, as investors absorbed the reality that the same political players in Washington, D.C., now must address the nation’s so-called fiscal cliff, which looms at year’s end. The Dow was down by about 280 points at 3 p.m., just over 2 percent, to under 13,000, after falling as much as 369 points earlier in the day. Financial and energy stocks were hit particularly hard.

Bureau of Labor Statistics: Compensation gains in metro Boston lag those for US

Total compensation costs for private industry workers in metro Boston increased 1.5 percent, compared with a national gain of 2 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said. The bureau, a unit of the US Department of Labor, studied compensation costs for the 12 month period that ended in September. In compiling the data, the bureau examined 15 metropolitan areas in the United States; eight of those 15 metro areas, including metro Boston, posted compensation growth below the US average.

Jones Lang LaSalle Construction finishes work on Hub office for the law firm Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner

Jones Lang LaSalle Construction said Wednesday that it has completed work as the general contractor for the new offices of Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner LLF law firm in Boston’s Innovation District. The project is valued at $3 million, Jones Lang LaSalle Construction said, and the new offices were designed by Gensler, a global architecture firm. Finnegan, Henderson, Farabow, Garrett & Dunner, which specializes in intellectual proprety law, was featured in a recent Globe article about an exodus of companies from East Cambridge.

MassDevelopment issues $30m bond for Falmouth assisted living facility

MassDevelopment, the Commonwealth’s finance and development agency, said it has issued a $30 million bond on behalf of Woodbriar Senior Living LLC, which will use bond proceeds to build a 125-unit assisted living facility in Falmouth. Woodbriar Senior Living is a subsidiary of Ventas Inc., a real estate investment trust focused on health care properties such as senior housing communities, skilled nursing facilities, hospitals, and medical office buildings.

Party goods retailer iParty is mulling ‘strategic alternatives’ after Hurricane Sandy hurt Halloween sales

IParty Corp., a Dedham-based chain of 54 party goods stores, said it has hired an investment bank to explore “strategic alternatives” after Hurricane Sandy hurt its all-important Halloween retail season. Strategic alternatives that will be considered include “raising additional financing to enhance the company’s ability to grow, a potential restructuring of its capital structure, or a potential sale of the company,” iParty said. No definitive timetable for completion of the strategic review process has been established, iParty added.

ClearView Audio to amp up ‘invisible’ speakers for music buffs

Emo Labs, a Waltham company that has just changed its name to ClearView Audio, said it has raised $1.05 million from private investors as it gears up to unveil a virtually invisible speaker system for audio buffs. Plans call for ClearView Audio to debut its new speaker system at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in early January.

Private jets line up at Logan as Romney backers arrive in Boston for election night party

Private jets were streaming into Boston’s Logan International Airport Tuesday afternoon, officials said, as Mitt Romney’s supporters arrived for his post-election party in the Seaport District.
