Jabil Circuit Inc. said Monday that it has agreed to pay about $665 million to buy Nypro Inc., a Clinton-based company that provides precision plastic products for the health care packaging and consumer electronics industries. Headquartered in Florida, Jabil is a global company that helps customers to design efficient supply chains. An Employee Stock Ownership Plan, or ESOP, now owns a substantial portion of Nypro’s stock. Dunkin’ Donuts is bringing back its heart-shaped donuts in time for Valentine’s Day. According to the Canton-based chain, heart-shaped donuts are back as “a fun, affordable, and easy way to show your love.” One such donut is called Cupid’s Choice. Its official description: A donut “filled with Bavarian Kreme, topped with strawberry flavored icing and a festive mix of pink, white, and red heart-shaped sprinkles.” The average price of gas in Massachusetts was $3.599 a gallon in latest weekly AAA survey, up 14 cents from the previous week’s average, AAA Southern New England said Monday. The big jump was attributable to recent increases in the price of crude oil, AAA Southern New England added. The current national average is $3.52 a gallon. A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was $3.49. Acme Packet, a Bedford company that makes equipment to accelerate voice, video, and data delivery across networks, said Monday that it has agreed to be acquried by technology giant Oracle Corp. for $29.25 per share in cash representing a fully diluted equity value of $2.1 billion. Net of cash this represents an enterprise value of $1.7 billion. “Together with Oracle, we expect to provide customers with purpose-built, innovative solutions to accelerate the deployment of all-IP networks and help deliver a superior experience across services, devices, and networks,” Acme Packet CEO Andy Ory said. As breakfast gourmets know, Tuesday is National Pancake Day, and to mark this momentous occasion, the IHOP restaurant chain plans to dish up free flapjacks from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. The Feb. 5 giveaway is tied to the California-based chain’s efforts to support such institutions as Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. In return for a short stack of buttermilk pancakes, customers are asked to make a voluntary donation to children’s charities. “On Call,” a game designed to sharpen quick-thinking skills for emergency medical personnel, has won a prestigious award, its local developers said. The game might be partly described as a hospital emergency room simulator, and its developers include the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Becker College, and the Massachusetts Digital Games Institute. (Also known as MassDiGi, the institute is a state-sponsored game development center. “On Call” was voted Best in Show at the Serious Games and Virtual Environments Showcase at the 2013 SSIH International Meeting for Simulation in Healthcare.
