First Wind: Obama’s State of the Union address rates kudos for ‘clean energy vision’
First Wind, a renewable energy company headquartered in Boston, commended President Obama for the clean energy vision outlined in his State of the Union address and called for policies that will level the playing field in the competition between the renewable energy industry and the fossil fuel industry. Federal tax credits for wind energy were recently extended by Congress. And when that happened, First Wind announced that it was poised to increase its operating portfolio of wind projects by 50 percent in the coming years.
Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce praises Obama comments on immigration reform
Paul Guzzi, chief executive of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, praised President Obama’s comments on immigration reform in Tuesday night’s State of the Union address. “The chamber applauds President Obama for highlighting the need for skilled worker immigration reform” in his State of the Union address, Guzzi said. “The president’s remarks reflect the growing, bipartisan support in Washington to improve our nation’s access to top international talent, as part of broader based immigration reform.”
When it comes to romance, April in Paris may take second place to the office, survey suggests
Workplace romance may be even more rampant than feared, suggests a new survey commissioned by CareerBuilder.com. Issued just in time for Valentine’s Day, the survey found that 30 percent of those who have dated a co-worker said their office love affair led them to the altar. The survey also found that 39 percent of workers said they have dated a co-worker at least once. With many folks too tired or time-squeezed for a proper social life, the workplace is now often becoming the default setting for romance.
Davis Advertising is now the agency of record for Honey Dew Donuts
Davis Advertising of Worcester said it is now the agency of record for Honey Dew Associates Inc., a Plainville-based coffee-and-doughnut shop chain with more than 150 locations. Davis Advertising said it is handling all advertising and marketing for Honey Dew Donuts, including creative concepts, TV and radio production, print advertising, photography, point of sale marketing materials, interactive advertising and marketing. Media buying for Honey Dew will be handled by a third party. The agency’s press release did not include billings for the account.
About 20,000 still without power
About 200,000 Massachusetts customers were still without power at 3 p.m, down from a peak of more than 400,000 after the powerful snowstorm that hit the state over the weekend.
Consumer United in Boston raises $52.5 million in financing to expand
Consumer United, Inc., an online insurance agency started six years ago, has raised $52.5 million in financing to continue its expansion across the country.
Pilgrim nuclear plant remains shut for repairs
The Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth, which shut down after losing power to its safety systems during the weekend snowstorm, once again has electricity, but will remain out-of-commission while repair work is done on a leaky safety relief valve that caused a problem at the plant last month, federal regulatory officials said. The power, provided by local utilities, returned at midnight on Tuesday, according to a statement from the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission
