General Dynamics to buy Fidelis Security Systems of Waltham

General Dynamics Corp., a Virginia-based company that makes weapon systems and combat vehicles as well as information systems, said Monday that it has agreed to buy Fidelis Security Systems Inc. as a way to beef up its cyber security offerings. The value of the transaction is not being disclosed. Fidelis Security Systems employs about 70 people at locations in Waltham and Bethesda, Md. It specializes in helping its customers to prevent data breaches.

Dunkin’ Brands sued over alleged racial bias

A lawsuit filed in New Jersey state court Monday accuses Canton-based Dunkin’ Brands of “systemic racial discrimination” against minority franchisees by steering them to poorer neighborhoods while awarding more lucrative locations to white franchise owners.

Steward Health Care System moves to buy Mercy Hospital in Portland, Maine

Pushing forward with its plans to expand out of state, Steward Health Care System LLC, which has amassed a chain of 10 community hospitals in Massachusetts, has signed a letter of intent to buy Mercy Health System of Maine from a Catholic hospital group. The letter, which does not spell out financial terms, gives Boston-based Steward exclusive rights to negotiate with Mercy’s owner, Catholic Hospital East, a Pennsylvania-based network of 35 hospitals and other health facilities operating in 11 states from Maine to Florida.

Mass. officials announce anti-foreclosure grants

More than $19 million in grants have been awarded to cities, towns, and organizations across Massachusetts to assist communities and homeowners in alleviating the impacts of the foreclosure crisis. State Attorney General Martha Coakley announced the awarding of ‘‘HomeCorps’’ program grant funding Monday morning. Two of the program’s grants will help fund statewide initiatives that provide direct assistance to borrowers. Eighteen recipients will receive grants through the program’s community revitalization effort.

Mass. gas prices rise 6 cents a gallon

The average price for gas in Massachusetts was $3.739 a gallon in the latest weekly AAA survey, up 6 cents from the previous week’s average, AAA Southern New England said Monday. Over the past month, local prices are up 17 cents a gallon. The current national average is $3.72 a gallon; a year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average was $3.64.

IHOP is now serving up pancakes --- and more --- in Northborough

IHOP Restaurant, a California-based chain of franchised eateries known for flapjacks and other “signature” breakfast specialties, said it is opening a restaurant Monday at Northborough Crossing in Northborough. The new restaurant will also be serving a “broad array of lunch, dinner, and snack items,” IHOP said. The Northborough restaurant will be open from 7 a.m. until 10 p.m. on weekdays and from 7 a.m. until midnight on weekends.

CSP announces sudden death of chief executive Alexander R. Lupinetti

CSP Inc. announced Monday the sudden passing of chairman, president, and chief executive Alexander R. Lupinetti, 67. Victor Dellovo, 43, president of the company’s Modcomp subsidiary, has been appointed by the the company’s board of directors to serve as CSP’s interim president and chief executive. Based in Billerica, CSP and its subsidiaries develop and market IT integration solutions and high-performance computer systems to meet the diverse requirements of industrial, commercial, and defense customers worldwide. Lupinetti had been chief executive and president since October 1996.

Liberty Mutual receives Chinese regulatory OK to establish a branch in Shandong Province

Liberty Mutual Insurance Group of Boston said it has been granted approval to establish a branch in Shandong Province by the China Insurance Regulatory Commission. Liberty said it received the commission’s approval on Aug. 6 to prepare for a provincial branch in Jinan, the capital of Shandong Province, which is the fourth largest property and casualty insurance market in China.

Maine gas prices up 4 cents per gallon

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine residents are experiencing more pain at the pump. Price-monitoring website MaineGasPrices.com reports Monday that the average retail cost of a gallon of gas in the state is up another four cents to an average of $3.83. Maine prices are now 13 cents above the national average. Current prices are more than 14 cents per gallon higher than they were at the same time last year and nearly 24 cents higher than a month ago.

Dyax expands executive roles

Dyax Corp., a biopharmaceutical company based in Burlington, announced the appointment of Ivana Magovcevic-Liebisch to the new position of executive vice president, chief operating officer, and the appointment of Burt Adelman, chief medical officer, to executive vice president. In the COO role, Magovcevic-Liebisch will be responsible for the execution of corporate strategy and achievement of corporate goals related to the company’s commercial operations, research, legal, and business development departments.

Logan wheelchair attendants given back pay

The Massachusetts Attorney General has cited a contractor at Logan International Airport for failing to pay wheelchair attendants minimum wage and ordered the company to give 30 workers more than $11,000 in back pay.
