Markey and two other lawmakers today called on the Obama administration to help drive down the fuel’s costs by releasing crude oil -- used to make gas -- from the nation’s strategic petroleum reserve. Gas prices have spiked most recently as tensions with Iran have escalated over fears that the dispute over Iran’s nuclear programs will disrupt global oil supplies. Joslin Diabetes Center is teaming up with American Well to offer ‘telehealth’ servicesAmerican Well, a privately held Boston company that uses technology to bring health care services into the homes and workplaces of patients, plans to collaborate with Joslin Diabetes Center to make Joslin’s diabetes expertise more accessible to patients nationwide. American Well’s focus is so-called “teleheath services,” which allows patients to have one-on-on video conferences with medical professionals or ask those professionals questions either through texting or phone calls. Bruker 4Q profit rises on instrument salesRising sales of scientific instruments helped Bruker Corp.’s fourth-quarter profit jump 33 percent. Bruker said today that its profit rose to $39.1 million, or 23 cents per share, from $29.3 million, or 18 cents per share. Excluding one-time charges, Billerica-based Bruker said it earned 31 cents per share. That beat Wall Street expectations for 29 cents per share, according to a FactSet poll. | |||
Protesters chide Romney, Bain CapitalProtesters gathered at lunch time today across the street from Bain Capital’s headquarters in Boston, criticizing the firm and Mitt Romney for what they called killing jobs out of greed. “They have made a business out of killing jobs for profit,” said Jason Stephany, spokesman for the group MassUniting.org, which led the protest. MassUniting says it is a coalition of labor and faith-based groups. Zipcar invests in WheelzZipcar Inc., the Cambridge-based car-sharing service that rents cars by the hour, said it is investing in a $13.7 million Series A round of funding for a California company that targets so-called “peer-to-peer” car-sharing services to college students.
