Davis Cos. taps Griffin
The Davis Cos., a Boston firm that owns, develops, and manages commercial real estate properties, said that Corey A. Griffin is its new president. Griffin joins the Davis Cos. from Boston Company Asset Management LLC, a Bank of New York Mellon subsidiary where he spent 15 years, seven as chief executive. In his new job, Griffin will oversee the senior management team responsible for the firm’s day-to-day operation. Griffin will work with chief executive and founder Jonathan Davis.

Mascoma plans IPO worth $100m
Mascoma Corp. said today that it plans to raise up to $100 million in an initial public offering of stock. The Lebanon, N.H., company said it has developed a technology that employs genetically modified yeast and other microorganisms to cut costs and improve production of renewable fuels and chemicals. It plans to begin selling this technology for the first time next year, focusing on corn ethanol producers.

NStar proposes winter price cut for gas customers
NStar said it has proposed a new price rate that could shave about 9 percent off a residential gas customer’s monthly bill this winter. The recommendation requires regulatory approval. If NStar’s price cut is approved, it would save the average residential gas-heating customer nearly $17 a month. Last winter, those customers were paying an average of about $178 a month for home heating, cooking, and water-heating, NStar said. Under its proposed new rate, that average would drop to $161.

Mass. gas prices fall 3 cents a gallon
The average price of gas in Massachusetts is $3.629 a gallon in the latest weekly survey from AAA . That’s down 3 cents from the previous week’s average, AAA Southern New England said this morning. The drop followed two straight weeks of increases. The current national average is $3.58 a gallon, AAA Southern New England said; a year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average was $2.60.

Boston Scientific begins marketing new catheter
Natick medical device maker Boston Scientific Corp. said it has begun marketing a catheter that is designed for use in patients undergoing peripheral angioplasty procedures below the knee. The name of the product is the Coyote Balloon Catheter. Its small size and maneuverability make it well suited for treating blood vessels in the body’s lower extremities. Catheters are used to open blocked arteries. Boston Scientific has begun making the product available in such markets as the United States and Europe.

Conn. casinos seek break on paying for security
A dispute is brewing over the security bill for two of the largest casinos in the United States, tribal-run properties in Connecticut where the state assigns teams of troopers and other agents to patrol resort areas . The tribes that must reimburse the state for the services of police, liquor control officers, and auditors are questioning whether such a heavy state presence is necessary. The assessments have risen to $7.3 million for the Foxwoods Resort Casino and $6.8 million for Mohegan Sun for the last fiscal year.

Dunkin’ signs on with ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown
Dunkin’ Donuts recently signed a multi-season sponsorship with ESPN’s “Monday Night Countdown” football show. The deal gives Dunkin’ Donuts exclusive rights to Field Pass segments that air during the program, which is hosted by Chris Berman and analysts Cris Carter, Mike Ditka, Tom Jackson, Keyshawn Johnson, and others. Well entrenched in its home territory of New England, Dunkin’ is in the midst of an aggressive expansion plan to grow its national presence. “Monday Night Countdown” attracts a national audience of fans.

TV38 joins 10 p.m. news race
Beginning Monday, WSBK (Channel 38) will launch its new 10 p.m. newscast, along with a new station name.

Digitas campaign enlists YouTube’s FreddieW to pitch for Samsung smartphone
Digital marketing firm Digitas has enlisted to YouTube.com star FreddieW to help market a new Samsung smartphone specially designed for those who enjoy video gaming and online videos. FreddieW has elicited much comment among YouTube enthusiasts for his viral videos, particularly among consumers between 18 to 34. That’s the same audience that Digitas client Samsung is courting with its new Galaxy S II smartphone. FreddieW’s Samsung video? It’s so soft sell you may not know it’s a commercial until the end.

Fenway, Harvard building projects get city okay to move forward
Harvard University plans $100 million school building in Allston near Charles River that will include classrooms and dormitories. In Fenway area, developer Steve Samuels is adding to his portfolio of new buildings on Boylston Street with large mixed-used complex that will include a Target department stores. Samuels is also looking to start a second building nearby on Brookline Ave.

Harvard Business Review has a new editor
Harvard Business Review Group said today that Amy Bernstein will be the editor of its Harvard Business Review magazine. Currently a vice president at ManpowerGroup, Bernstein will report to Harvard Business Review Group editor-in-chief Adi Ignatius, who oversees the group’s three areas of specialization: the magazine, its book publishing, and digital content. The Harvard Business Review publishes the Harvard Business Review magazine in print and digital formats and publishes several dozen books annually on business and management topics.
