There’s also the caramel apple donut, described as an old fashioned flavored cake donut coated with cinnamon sugar. Apple cider is also available, either hot or cold. Pumpkin joe can also be had as packaged coffee that can be brewed at home. Hill Holliday to host FutureM panel discussion Boston ad agency Hill Holliday said it will host “The Pitch,” a panel discussion that is part of FutureM, a local event that will focus on marketing, media and technology. Scheduled to run from Sept. 12 through Sept. 16, FutureM is the brainchild of the Massachusetts Innovation and Technology Exchange, or MITX, an Internet business and marketing association. “The Pitch” panel discussion will feature an “American Idol” style presentation of start-up companies, Hill Holliday said. Mass. gas prices rise 3 cents a gallon The average price for gas in Massachusetts is $3.649 a gallon in the latest weekly survey from AAA, up 3 cents from the previous week’s average, AAA Southern New England said today. The current national average is $3.66 a gallon. A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was $2.61 a gallon, AAA Southern New England said. AAA’s surveys focus on the average price of a gallon of self-serve, regular unleaded gas. AIM survey: Local business confidence falls A Bay State business confidence index has moved into negative territory for the first time since September 2010, the Associated Industries of Massachusetts , or AIM, said today. AIM’s index lost 1.3 points in August to post a 49.2 reading on a 100-point scale. According to AIM, disappointing economic growth and turmoil in the financial markets were factors that led to a lower index reading. AIM is an advocacy group for Bay State employers. Progress Software says earnings expected to be lower than guidance Progress Software, the Bedford maker of business software, said today its preliminary revenue and earnings per share for the fiscal third quarter are “lower than guidance.” Revenue fell short of expectations in part because some customers were delaying decisions on large software purchases. Progress expects fiscal third quarter GAAP and non-GAAP revenue to be $128 million, GAAP diluted earnings per share to be between 10 cents and 12 cents, and non-GAAP diluted earnings per share to be between 27 cents and 29 cents. iRobot’s latest version of the Roomba vacuum-cleaning robot rolls out in Europe Bedford’s iRobot Corp. said it is rolling out the latest version of its robotic Roomba vacuum cleaner in Europe. Among the upgrades featured in the Roomba 700 series are an advanced cleaning head and a new power management software. According to the company, its line-up of home robots account for about 60 per cent of its sales, and much of those sales come from outside the United States; iRobot also makes robots for military and law enforcement use. Vote of confidence from Buffett Just when it seemed as though Bank of America Corp. could not buy a friend, the struggling financial giant did exactly that. Kettle Cuisine looks to expand Kettle Cuisine Inc., a Chelsea company specializing in refrigerated and frozen soups for both consumers and food service companies, said that it is looking to expand following a recent investment by Arlon Capital Partners of New York. Privately held Kettle Cuisine said the amount of Arlon’s investment is not being disclosed. At a time when sales for canned soups are declining, the company thinks it has an opportunity to capitalize on trends that have consumers gravitating toward products that offer fresher ingredients. Fewer than 16,000 without power in Massachusetts Fewer than 16,000 Massachusetts electric customers remained without power because of Tropical Storm Irene, as utility workers logged long hours to repair downed wires. National Grid officials said that 15,000 customers were still without power. Those numbers were expected to drop to 5,000 by tonight. All National Grid customers should have their power returned by Sunday evening. NStar reported that about 1,500 customers were also without electricity this afternoon, and officials expected work to be completed tonight. Six Flags is adding another roller coaster Six Flags New England has disclosed plans to bring to its theme park in Agawam a roller coaster called Goliath, featuring a vertical 18-story drop and 102-foot-high vertical loop. Goliath, which is designed to attain free-fall reaching speeds of 65 miles per hour, is scheduled to make its Agawam debut in late spring 2012.
