Cupcake chef plans Boston store
An award-winning cupcake chef is planning to open a store called Cakeology in Boston’s Downtown Crossing. Store owner Victoria Donnelly has won culinary kudos for her mint chocolate chip cupcakes.

Senior Housing Properties to sell 6.5m shares
Senior Housing Properties Trust said today that it is selling 6.5 million shares of common stock at $22.50 apiece, a 2.8 percent discount to their most recent closing price.

Investor confidence index drops
Global investor confidence fell in June as investors worried about everything from supply disruptions from Japan to the Greek debt crises, according to a confidence index developed by a unit of State Street Corp.

EMC: World’s data doubles every 2 years
A new study sponsored by data storage giant EMC in Hopkinton finds that the world’s data doubles every two years. The study forecasts that 1.8 zettabytes of data will be created and replicated in 2011 alone.

InfraReDx raises $24 million
Burlington medical device company InfraReDx Inc. said it has raised $24.1 million from the sale of equity to existing InfraReDx shareholders. Some of the funding will be used to support the recent launch of a coronary imaging system that can detect coronary plaques.

Mass. home sales drop in May
The Massachusetts housing market showed continued weakness in May, though home owners had some cause for optimism --- single-family home prices rose for the first time this year, according to a real estate report issued today.

The greater Boston video game industry welcomed today’s US Supreme Court ruling striking down a California law restricting the access minors have to violent games.

Santander USA announces new chairman
Santander Holdings USA Inc., the owner of Sovereign Bank, said that Jerry A. Grundhofer will be appointed the non-executive chairman of its board. Sovereign is one of the largest regional banks in the Northeast, with a sizable presence in Massachusetts.

AAA: July 4 travel is likely to fall
Holiday travel over the upcoming Fourth of July weekend is projected to fall both nationally and locally, AAA said. Higher gas prices are the big reason why the number of holiday travelers is projected to fall by 2.7 percent in New England. Higher gas prices for cars is making air travel more attractive, AAA added.

Sun Life life insurance product includes long-term care coverage
Sun Life Financial Inc., a Canadian company with a large presence in Wellesley, said it is debuting Sun Care Whole Life, a single premium whole life insurance policy with a linked benefit that owners can apply to long-term care costs, including for in-home care, assisted living, and nursing home facilities.
