Grossman to detail report on pension overcharges
Massachusetts Treasurer Steven Grossman has scheduled a press conference for this afternoon to "discuss remediation and cost recovery efforts associated with a report made public today that reveals the Massachusetts state pension fund has been overcharged by at least $20 million over the past four years as a result of foreign currency trading abuses," his office said.

Saul Ewing, a Philadelphia-based law firm with nine offices, plans to open a 10th. Saul Ewing plans to establish a Hub presence by merging with Dionne & Gass, a Boston law firm with about a dozen attorneys.

Mass. gas prices drop 5 cents a gallon
The average price for a gallon of gas in Massachusetts fell 5 cents to $3.719 in the latest weekly survey from AAA. A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was $2.71.

VF is buying Timberland
VF, the company that own such brands as Wrangler, Nautica, and the North Face, now owns another --- Timberland, the New Hampshire company known for its boots and outdoor gear. VF plans to buy Timberland for more than $2.2 billion.

PerkinElmer buys UK firm
PerkinElmer said it has bought a London firm that specializes in X-ray detection technologies. The acquisition will expand PerkinElmer's medical imaging portfolio, PerkinElmer said.

Vertex teams up with Alios BioPharma
Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc., the Cambridge company that recently got approval for a potential blockbuster hepatitis C drug, announced a licensing agreement with Alios BioPharma Inc. According to Vertex, the agreement should broaden its hepatitis C portfolio.

Nuance releases some new products
Nuance releases some new speech recognition software products. One new app makes it possible to use an iPhone or an iPad as a wireless microphone for Dragon via a Wi-Fi connection.

Borders to close Swampscott store
The distressed bookstore chain Borders will shut down its Swampscott location as well as its Downtown Crossing store as part of a new wave of closings.

City denies sale of Faneuil Hall lease
The Boston Redevelopment Authority has denied General Growth Properties request for a transfer of the Faneuil Hall Marketplace lease to Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp. until it responds to requests for more information.

Tufts Medical Center seeks $11.2 million from Lifespan after judge's ruling
Tufts Medical Center is seeking to collect an $11.2 million payment after a federal court ruled its former Rhode Island parent company, Lifespan, engaged in misconduct while investing the hospital's fees and negotiating on its behalf with health insurers.
