Aug. 17, 2011 Christian Science Plaza redevelopment plan gets city OK Boston officials have approved plans for a sweeping redevelopment of the Christian Science Plaza that will eventually result in construction of three new towers on the property and reconstruction of the reflecting pool and surrounding gathering places. The approval is the first step in reinventing the roughly 15-acre plaza, which is a wide open expanse at the intersection of the city’s South End and Back Bay neighborhoods. Local community banks to get $18m under small business loan program Mercantile Capital Corp., a community bank based in Boston, is in line to receive $7 million under a federal program that aims to stimulate loans to small businesses, the US Department of the Treasury said today. Other Bay State community banks that will receive funding under the program include Island Bancorp Inc. of Edgartown, New England Bancorp Inc. of Hyannis, and Rockport National Bancorp Inc. Collectively, the four banks are set to receive $18 million. JetBlue offering more unlimited flight passes JetBlue is offering more of its new unlimited flight pass from Boston after the original batch sold out in just one week. The pass costs $1,999 and is one of three options the New York airline offered last month for three months of unlimited travel starting Monday. Eaton Vance fiscal 3Q profit surges 63% Investment manager Eaton Vance Corp.’s fiscal third-quarter earnings jumped 63 percent, topping Wall Street’s estimate, as revenue from investment advisory and administration fees surged. Eaton Vance said that net income was $68.1 million, or 55 cents per share, for the three months ended July 31. That was up from $41.8 million, or 34 cents per share, in the same quarter a year ago. Wis., Mass. can expect strong cranberry seasons Cranberry harvests in Wisconsin and Massachusetts are expected to be strong this year as crops in both states benefit from favorable weather. If those predictions are met, Wisconsin would account for 57 percent of the national crop and Massachusetts 28 percent. Verizon Wireless is expanding 4G service west of Boston Verizon Wireless said it will expand its 4G LTE network service to an additional 29 suburbs of Boston, most of them west of the city. Subscribers to the company’s 4G service will get faster Internet surfing and better video streaming on their 4G enabled smartphones, tablets, and other devices. According to Verizon Wireless, its 4G service is 10 times faster than its previous generation 3G service. Fuseideas will create ads for Mercantile Bank Boston-based Mercantile Bank has named Fuseideas as its agency of record, said Fuseideas, an advertising, public relations, and interactive marketing agency headquartered in Somerville. Working with bank president Charley Monaghan, the Fuseideas team will create full service marketing programs for the bank including print, broadcast, and online advertising as well as marketing and public relations and social media support. Lewtan taps Donde as CEO Lewtan, a Waltham information and technology company, announced the appointment of Salil Donde as chief executive. Donde joins Lewtan from Marshall & Swift/Boeckh, a provider of property information services, where he served as chief executive. BJ’s Wholesale 2Q net income up on membership fees BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc.’s second-quarter net income rose 28 percent as it made more money from membership fees. It was also helped by favorable merchandise margins and better-than-expected expense controls. The nation’s third-largest warehouse club operator, which is being taken private, earned $45.7 million, or 84 cents per share, for the period ended July 30.
