NESN scores with baseball broadcasts
New England Sports Network had some of the most watched programs last week in Boston, thanks to broadcasts of Major League Baseball games.

Veson Nautical moves to larger space
Veson Nautical said it has moved its corporate headquarters to larger space as its Boston headcount grew from 24 to 40 employees over the last year. The firm’s new office at 500 Boylston St. occupies roughly 20,000 square feet of space, said Veson Nautical, which provides software to such customers as shipping companies and oil and gas companies. The software helps these customers to manage their fleets, voyages, and cargoes. The firm’s old location was 162 Columbus Ave. in Boston.

Ruling by state’s highest court could provide boost for those fighting eviction
In a ruling released today, the Supreme Judicial Court said people fighting eviction from homes they lost to foreclosure can challenge the validity of a property seizure in housing court after the fact.

McPhee joins Channel 5
Boston newspaper and radio journalist Michele McPhee is joining WCVB-TV (Channel 5) as a general assignment reporter, with a focus on crime and law enforcement.

Citizens launches new service for small business customers
Citizens Bank said it has launched accessCARD Command, an expense-management service for small business credit card users. The service enables small business owners to set spending controls on the cards issued to their employees and to receive real-time account information, including purchases made or attempted by their employees. According to Citizens, it is the first financial institution in the United States to provide access to this product to its small business cardholders.

TJX raises 2Q guidance
TJX Cos., the Framingham company that operates such retail chains as T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, and HomeGoods, said today that it raising its second-quarter guidance after reporting July sales results that exceeded company expectations. For the second quarter, the company said it now expects diluted earnings per share to be $.88 - $.89, above its previously projected range, compared with $.74 per share last year on a GAAP basis.

BJ’s July same-store sales rise 9.2%
BJ’s Wholesale Club Inc., a Westborough-based chain of 190 warehouse club stores, reported today that July sales were $854.8 million, up 12.4 percent from July 2010. One metric that Wall Street analysts look at closely is same-store sales --- sales at stores open at least a year. On a same-store basis, July 2011 sales increased by 9.2 percent, including a contribution from sales of gasoline of 3.8 percent

Ciao Bella Gelato taps Affinnova for new look
Affinnova Inc. said it was selected by Ciao Bella Gelato to assist in a product packaging redesign for Ciao Bella’s frozen dessert products. In order to maintain their market position, Ciao Bella decided to make a packaging change for their gelato and sorbet products, and for that purpose, it turned to Affinnova, a Waltham company founded by two MIT PhDs who saw that algorithms developed for genetic research had great relevance for measuring customer feedback for consumer products.

AT&T disputes Yankee Group report
AT&T Inc. is firing back at Boston technology research firm Yankee Group, which claims that AT&T’s proposed $39 billion acquisition of cell phone company T-Mobile USA would be bad for consumers. “The report ignores so many facts and is so analytically flawed that it cannot be taken seriously,” said AT&T senior vice president and general counsel Wayne Watts.

Staples Foundation awards $200k in grants to local nonprofits
Office supplies giant Staples Inc. said its charitable foundation is allocating roughly $200,000 worth of grants to 14 Massachusetts nonprofits that seek to help disadvantaged youth. The foundation is giving grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000 to local organizations focused on academic achievement, workforce development, job skills, and diversity.
