Two of Boston’s largest homeless shelters will decide by the fall whether to merge.

Tully’s Coffee launches national community spaces contest --- and a special coffee blend
Tully’s, a coffee brand owned by Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. of Vermont, is sponsoring a contest that will award a grant of up to $100,000 to revitalize a community space where “people can meet, linger, chat, and celebrate.” The contest’s first 500 entrants will receive two free bags of Tully’s Coffee, including a bag of Community Spaces Blend, a limited edition blend designed to celebrate the contest and its goals.

Alere announces offer to buy Axis-Shield
Alere Inc. , a Waltham company that makes medical diagnostics products, said that it will make an offer to buy Axis-Shield in a transaction Alere values at $375 million. Axis-Shield is based in Scotland, and one of its specialties is making instruments and tests that are used in doctors’ offices.

EF Education First gets OK to expand in Cambridge
EF Education First, a Swiss company with North American headquarters in Cambridge, said that the Massachusetts Legislature has approved a bill that will allow it to move forward on a plan to more than double its local office space near the Museum of Science and North Point Park. The company currently has 650 employees in Cambridge and said it intends to hire “hundreds” more if all goes as planned with its expansion proposal.

Arsenal Mall gears up for new retailers
Arsenal Mall in Watertown is getting ready to welcome some new stores to its mix of tenants. Now open is a new Pretzel Twister store. And scheduled to open soon are a Chipotle, a Reebok Factory Store, a SE Asian Bistro, and a Sprint store.

STAG buys Norton warehouse
STAG Industrial Inc., a Boston real estate company, said today that it has acquired an $11 million warehouse and distribution facility located in Norton. The facility, which occupies roughly 195,000 square feet of space, is 100 percent leased to Plantation Products LLC, a company that buys, packages, and distributes seeds to US retailers.

$81.5 million deal among the biggest in the city this year.

Adidas Q2 net rises to $200 million
Shoe and sports clothing maker Adidas, whose brands include Reebok of Canton, said that net profit rose 11 percent in the second quarter and reported a big jump in sales in China. Net profit rose to (euro) 140 million ($200 million) from (euro) 126 million in the same quarter a year ago, and the company said it was boosting its earnings outlook for the full year.

NESN scores with baseball broadcasts
New England Sports Network had some of the most watched programs last week in Boston, thanks to broadcasts of Major League Baseball games.

Veson Nautical moves to larger space
Veson Nautical said it has moved its corporate headquarters to larger space as its Boston headcount grew from 24 to 40 employees over the last year. The firm’s new office at 500 Boylston St. occupies roughly 20,000 square feet of space, said Veson Nautical, which provides software to such customers as shipping companies and oil and gas companies. The software helps these customers to manage their fleets, voyages, and cargoes. The firm’s old location was 162 Columbus Ave. in Boston.

Ruling by state’s highest court could provide boost for those fighting eviction
In a ruling released today, the Supreme Judicial Court said people fighting eviction from homes they lost to foreclosure can challenge the validity of a property seizure in housing court after the fact.
