WGBH general manager Marita Rivero is stepping down
WGBH general manager Marita Rivero will step down in June after 30 years at the Boston public broadcaster, WGBH said Friday. Rivero will be succeeded by two individuals from her senior staff: Liz Cheng, currently general manager of WGBH’s national digital multicast channel WORLD, has been named general manager for television, and Phil Redo, currently managing director of 89.7 WGBH and WCAI, has been named general manager for radio, said WGBH, which added that Rivero “will remain of counsel to WGBH leadership.” It was Rivero’s decision to step down as general manager, a WGBH spokesman said. WGBH said that Rivero is responsible for WGBH’s signature programs and community initiatives, including the global news program The World on 89.7-FM, and Greater Boston and Basic Black on WGBH 2.
Filene’s project to resume as major tenant signed
The long-stalled Filene’s redevelopment in downtown Boston will resume within days, as the project’s developer has signed the advertising firm Arnold Worldwide to occupy a large chunk of a $620 million complex of new offices, stores, and luxury homes. The upcoming work will bring life back to the property and accelerate the broader revitalization of Downtown Crossing, where the blight at Filene’s has undermined an otherwise robust period of construction activity in the area. Construction on the property will unfold gradually. Developer Millennium Partners will start by rebuilding the original Filene’s store into a retail and office building for Arnold and other tenants. Months later, it will proceed with construction of a 50-plus story tower containing apartments, condominiums and additional stores.
