More than 115,000 customers -- mostly served by NStar -- are still without power following the weekend snowstorm that left the South Shore and Cape Cod particularly battered. As of 12:30 p.m., about 93,000 NStar customers had no electricity, and the utility said some would remain that way until Thursday night. National Grid, meanwhile, reported about 23,000 customers without service, but expected to have all of them back online by Tuesday night. At the storm’s peak, more than 420,000 customers went dark. Staples Inc., the office-supply giant based in Framingham, said Monday that it has launched a new ad campaign that highlights that the company has broadened its inventory as it looks to alert business customers that it’s easier than ever “to get every product they need to succeed.”In a statement, Steve Fund, senior vice president of global marketing at Staples, said, “The campaign highlights our vision of providing every product customers need as well as our unique omnichannel capabilities, which allow customers to shop in store, online, via mobile or a combination.” Logan International Airport was experiencing some delays due to freezing rain Monday morning, with United Airlines and JetBlue Airways flights in and out of Washington, D.C., behind by more than 45 minutes. Crews were still out on the airfield, clearing off signs, plowing taxiways, and melting piles of snow, but the majority of scheduled flights were operating as airlines worked to get back to normal. The average price for gas in Massachusetts is $3.689 a gallon in the latest weekly AAA survey, up 9 cents from the previous week’s average, AAA Southern New England said Monday. The previous week’s average was 14 cents higher than that of the week before. The increases are largely driven by a rise in crude oil prices. The current national average for gas is $3.58 a gallon, AAA Southern New England said. A year ago at this time, the Massachusetts average price was $3.56. Three Massachusetts philanthropists ranked among the nation’s 50 largest donors to charitable organizations in 2012, according to the Chronicle of Philanthropy. Only New York and California had more residents on the list. Joseph O’Donnell of Boston, founder of the Boston Culinary Group, and his wife Katherine gave $30 million to Harvard University. Venture capitalist Richard D’Amore of Waltham gave $30-million to Northeastern University for its school of business, and Clean Harbors founder Alan McKim, also pledged $30-million to Northeastern University’s business school. Avid Technology Inc., a Burlington company that makes equipment for the editing and processing of music and video, said Monday that its board of directors has appointed Louis Hernandez as president and chief executive, effective today. Hernandez succeeds former president and chief executive officer Gary Greenfield, who will remain on Avid’s board. Ping4 Inc., a Nashua, N.H., company that specializes in location-based alerts for smartphone users, said Monday that it has completed a $4 million private placement capital raise. Ping4 added that it has raised nearly $7 million to date. The company says its “ping4alerts!” provide information to smartphone users who have down-loaded its app. Alerts are issued regarding “geographically relevant dangers and emergencies that are in close proximity to smartphones bearing the app,” the company said. |  | |
