Iron Mountain buys three data companies

Data storage and management company Iron Mountain Inc. said it bought three companies -- IG2 Data Security, Inc. in Chicago, DATAPROS Storage and Staffing LLC in Phoenix; and Data Backup Inc. in Sarasota, Fla. Iron Mountain, which is based in Boston, did not disclose terms of the deals.

JetBlue moves into new maintenance hangar

JetBlue Airways celebrated its move into a new hangar at Logan International Airport on Monday, giving the airline room to service more planes and hire 30 new technical operations workers next year. The airline has gone from 57 crew members working on 10 planes a night three years ago to 118 workers servicing 33 aircraft a night now; JetBlue plans to hire an additional 30 workers next year.

Steward Health Care System’s plan to acquire Mercy Health System in Maine falls through

Steward Health Care System and Mercy Health System of Portland, Maine, have terminated a letter of intent signed last August under which Boston-based Steward would have purchased the financially struggling Catholic hospital group in its first out-of-state acquisition.In a terse statement issued late Friday afternoon, Steward said it had “entered into a period of exclusive negotiations but were unable to come to a definitive agreement” with Mercy Health. “As a result,” the Steward statement said, “the letter of intent is terminated.”

US Energy Dept. allocates grants to solar energy grid project at Fraunhofer Center

The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems is in line to receive up to $11.7 million in grants from the US Department of Energy for a project that seeks to develop technologies that will enable homeowners to select the right solar system for their homes. Based in Cambridge, the Fraunhofer Center is to receive the money over a five-year period, subject to congressional appropriations. The project looks to help reduce the cost of solar power and make it easier for American families and businesses to access clean, affordable energy.

Unemployment drops, jobs increase, but slowly

Employers added 146,000 jobs in November and the nation’s unemployment rate dipped to 7.7 percent, the government said Friday.

Locke-Ober auction underway, pieces of history up for sale

Ever wish you could own a piece of a famous restaurant like the venerable Locke-Ober in downtown Boston? Well you can today, in a way. New owners who closed the 137-year-old restaurant in October are auctioning off the contents --- about 250 items --- on Friday, in part to defray the cost of renovating the space where a new restaurant will open next year. About 80 people looked over items for sale at the restaurant’s location at 1-3 Winter St. Friday morning.

Genzyme drug for treating thyroid cancer is approved for wider use in Europe

Genzyme, the Cambridge biotechnology company now owned by French drug maker Sanofi SA, said that a drug used in treating thyroid cancer has been approved for wider use in Europe. The drug is Thyrogen, and it has been approved for use in the management of patients with thyroid cancer in the United States since 1998. It has also been approved for use in Europe. In a Friday press release, Genzyme said it has received European Commission approval of a product label expansion for the use of Thyrogen.

Fantini & Gorga arranges $12m refi for a Marshalls landlord in Swampscott

Fantini & Gorga, a Boston-based mortgage banking firm, it has arranged a $12 million refinancing package for a the landlord of a free-standing Marshalls store in Swampscott. Casimir Groblewski, managing director of Fantini & Gorga, represented landlord Botsini-Paradise Road LLC, a Massachusetts-based commercial real estate investment group, in the transaction.

Riverworks office complex in Watertown signs up new tenants

Mimecast North America, Fresh Tilled Soil, and Kearsarge Energy have signed leases at the recently renovated Riverworks office complex in Watertown, the complex’s owner and leasing agent said Thursday evening. The owner is Farley White, a Boston-based company that owns commercial real estate. Jones Lang LaSalle is the leasing agent. The renovated Riverworks reopened in May of 2012, and the complex is now 46 percent leased.

AT&T and Cambridge’s Akamai end rivalry, join forces to deliver Web content

Cambridge’s Akamai Technologies Inc. is teaming up with AT&T Inc. to begin delivering Web content for the telecommunications giant. The agreement ends a longtime rivalry between Akamai and AT&T in the business of content delivery network services, which allow video and other information to be sent over the Internet. It also gives Akamai access to a vast new customer base. News of the deal Thursday pushed Akamai stock up 10 percent, or $3.56, to close at $39.06. Financial terms of the agreement were not released.

Millennium and Forest City refile petition to build an office and laboratory complex in Cambridge

Commercial real estate developer Forest City Enterprises said Thursday it will refile a petition with Cambridge city officials, who delayed action on the plan in August, to build a 250,000-square-foot office and laboratory complex at 300 Massachusetts Ave. outside Central Square. The building would be occupied by Millennium Pharmaceuticals, the Takeda oncology company, which has about 1,200 employees in Massachusetts and is outgrowing its space in a half a dozen other buildings at Forest City’s University Park development near the proposed site.
