State surveys airline fees at Logan Airport

The Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation released on Friday the results of a four-month survey of the fees charged by airlines that serve Logan International Airport. The state compiled information on fees charged by 26 airlines for booking over the phone, changing flights, bringing a pet, and other services.

Logan wheelchair attendants given back pay

The Massachusetts Attorney General has cited a contractor at Logan International Airport for failing to pay wheelchair attendants minimum wage and ordered the company to give 30 workers more than $11,000 in back pay.

Massachusetts lost almost 4,000 construction jobs in the past year, according to trade group

A national trade group said Friday that the number of constructions jobs declined in 31 states over the past year, including by 3,990 -- about 3.6 percent -- in Massachusetts. The Associated General Contractors of America, which based its findings on US Department of Labor data, attributed the job losses to a decrease in funding for public projects.

Casual Male Retail Group to accelerate store opening

Casual Male Retail Group reported net income of $1.2 million for the its recent second fiscal year quarter, down from $6.6 million the previous period, and cautioned investors its results in the near future will be affected as it steps up rollout of its speciality stores for large and tall customers.

Biogen Idec teams with Teach for America to improve education for low-income students

The Biogen Idec Foundation and Teach For America are working together in support of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math education, or STEM. As part of the collaboration, a $100,000 grant from Weston-based biotech Biogen Idec Inc. will be split evenly to benefit Teach For America’s Massachusetts and eastern North Carolina regions. The nonprofit organization focuses on increasing education opportunities for low-income children. Througout the upcoming school year, Biogen Idec scientists will hold educational seminars for Teach for America instructors.

Mass. sues charity for alleged deceptive practices

The state has sued a veterans' charity and its professional fundraisers for allegedly using deceptive tactics to raise money. The Massachusetts attorney general’s office said Thursday that Dynamic Marketing Solutions Inc. working on behalf of Bay State Vietnam Veterans Inc. called potential donors and told them that 100 percent of their donation would benefit veterans.

State reverses ban on Uber car service ordering app

State officials have reversed an order that prohibited the use of Uber, a smartphone app consumers can use to order livery car services, saying on Wednesday that the service “is currently not out of compliance with state law.”

Despite state ruling, Uber car service vows “full speed ahead.”

Uber, a start-up that allows people to use a smartphone to request private car service, is promising to fight a cease-and-desist order from the Division of Standards of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts requiring it to stop operating in Greater Boston. The service’s drivers use GPS location technology, accessed via smartphone, to calculate the charges for each ride.

OneUnited Bank president Teri Williams testified that she was personally involved in trying to work out nearly $5 million in loans with leaders of the Charles Street African Methodist Episcopal Church in the summer of 2010, after the church had defaulted on a construction loan.

A123 signs binding agreement with Chinese investor, receives $25 million

A123 Systems Inc. will receive a $25 million injection after signing a binding agreement with a Chinese conglomerate that could ultimately to invest up to $465 million in the struggling Waltham battery maker and gain control of the firm, the companies said Thursday

Simon Pearce names new CEO

Simon Pearce, the New England design and lifestyle brand, named Clay Adams as its new chief executive officer. Adams will oversee the sprawling company portfolio from its corporate headquarters in Windsor, Vermont.
