A prominent local developer will build two towers next to Boston’s Christian Science Plaza, shaking up one of the city’s signature public spaces with what will be one of the tallest new buildings to hit the skyline in years. Outlining its “advocacy agenda” for 2013, the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce said Wednesday that it will work to increase the availability of skilled immigrant workers; it added that it will also look to advance tax policies that promote the state’s financial services industry and seek to reform waterfront real estate development rules in an effort to “unlock the full potential of Boston’s Innovation District.” As Japan Airlines continues to adjust its schedule to compensate for the grounded Boeing 787, the airline is canceling its Jan. 30 round-trip flight between Tokyo and Boston. The airline will continue to operate its other daily flights on a Boeing 777 between the two cities, with departure times delayed by about six hours on designated days. Problems with the 787 Dreamliner aircraft that previously served the route has caused the airline to adjust it schedule. Staples Inc., the Framingham-based office supply giant, said Wednesday that it has begun selling its private-label products to business customers in Japan. Products initially include filing products, fasteners, notebooks, writing instruments, and other business essentials, and the plan is to expand those offerings over time. The Pilgrim nuclear power plant in Plymouth is back online following a two-day shutdown to investigate a minor leak at a valve on a steam-carrying pipe. Plant owner Entergy said in a statement that Pilgrim was reconnected to the electric transmission grid just before 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The plant was manually shut down at about 5:45 p.m. Monday to investigate a minor leak associated with a pilot valve on one of the plant’s four safety relief valves. Plant technicians replaced the valve. State Street Global Advisors said it plans to start disclosing the daily valuations of its money market mutual fund shares, following the lead of Fidelity Investments and a number of Wall Street banks earlier this month. Money market funds typically price their shares at a constant $1, but there has been pressure from regulators to let the price float, reflecting the actual value of the bonds and other investments in the funds. Foundation Medicine Inc., a Cambridge biotechnology company using genomics data and DNA sequencing to help doctors pinpoint treatments for cancer patients, announced the appointment Wednesday of Steven J. Kafka to the newly created position of chief business officer. Kafka joins the company from Aileron Therapeutics, where he served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer. Foundation Medicine was the subject of a recent Globe story, in part because Microsoft Corp. founder Bill Gates is an investor in the company. | | |
