Belmont Savings to waive overdraft fees if US cuts off Social security, other payments
Add Belmont Savings Bank to the list of banks laying plans to help customers in the event the US government defaults on its debt next week. The community bank promised today to waive any overdraft charges for affected customers if the government temporarily stops paying Social Security or other benefits.

Thermo Fisher 2Q profits up 120 percent
Laboratory instrument maker Thermo Fisher Scientific Corp. reported Wednesday its second-quarter profit leapt more than 120 percent due to discontinued operations and higher sales.
