Staples announces lawsuit settlement
Staples Inc., the Framingham-based retailer of office supplies, said that it has reached a global settlement, subject to court approval, of the derivative litigation relating to the company's historical stock option granting practices.

National Grid asks for natural gas rate hike
The utility National Grid filed a proposed rate hike with the state today that would cost the average residential customer in Massachusetts up to $175 a year more for natural gas.

Payday lender agrees to cease operating in Mass.
An Internet-based payday lending company accused of selling loans at up to 600 percent interest in violation of Massachusetts law will no longer be able to do business in the state under terms of a settlement with the state attorney general's office.
