Phoenix sold WFNX for $14.5 million, papers reveal

Phoenix Media/Communications Group, which publishes the Boston Phoenix, is selling alternative rock station WFNX 101.7 FM for $14.5 million, according to documents released Wednesday by the Federal Communications Commission, which must approve the sale.

Verizon pays $317k to resolve allegations that it underpaid the Mass. unemployment fund

Subsidiaries of Verizon Communications Inc. have agreed to pay more than $317,000 to resolve allegations that they failed to pay their full unemployment contributions to the Commonwealth’s unemployment trust fund, the office of Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley said Wednesday. According to Verizon, an “honest dispute” arose over the amount of trust fund contributions when employees were transferred from one Verizon unit to another. Verizon said it agreed to pay the roughly $317,000 without admitting wrongdoing.

N.E. power dispatch group: Vt. Yankee not needed

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — The regional power dispatch group ISO New England has changed its stance on the future of Vermont Yankee saying the nuclear plant won’t be needed to ensure future power supplies and grid reliability. That’s a change from the position the ISO took last year. Sandra Levine of the Conservation Law Foundation tells Vermont Public Radio the new finding undercuts one of Entergy Corp.’s main arguments for keeping its Vermont reactor open.

Alere recalls 803,000 tests for heart attacks and heart failure

Waltham-based Alere Inc. is recalling 803,000 tests used to detect heart attacks and manage heart failure patients that failed to meet quality control guidelines. The recall covers 104 lots of the Alere Triage BNP, Alere Triage D-dimer, and Alere Triage cardiology panels that were produced in 2011 and the first quarter of 2012, the company said Wednesday in a regulatory filing. The products failed to meet guidelines established by the US Food and Drug Administration, the company said.

Zmags online brochure talks up the Acura RDX

Honda Motor Co. has just launched an online brochure from Zmags to promote its Acura RDX model, said Zmags, a Boston firm that specializes in interactive product brochures and catalogs that can include video. According to Zmags, its brochures can be accessed by consumers in multiple ways, including from their tablet computers and smartphones. Zmags claims that its Acura RDX brochure can recreate “the look and feel of the showroom experience.’’

Hollywood’s David Hasselhoff will pitch iced coffee for Cumberland Farms

David Hasselhoff, who achieved rerun immortality of sorts for his roles in such TV shows as “Knight Rider” and “Baywatch,” will star in a new TV ad from Cumberland Farms. The ad is part of an effort to promote iced coffee at the Framingham-based chain of convenience stores. The marketing campaign was developed by Boston advertising agency Full Contact.

Talbots extends exclusivity period with Sycamore for one day

Talbots Inc. extended its exclusivity agreement with Sycamore Partners LP for an additional day as it considers the private-equity firm’s $215 million buyout offer. The exclusivity period will expire Thursday, the Hingham-based company said Wednesday in a statement. Sycamore’s most recent offer was for $3.05 a share. Talbots said earlier this month that it was considering the offer after rejecting a previous bid of $3 a share as “substantially” undervaluing it.

Indian wind turbine company orders control systems from AMSC

AMSC, a Devens company that makes components for wind turbines, said Wednesday that Inox Wind Limited of India has placed a follow-on order for 50 of AMSC’s electrical control systems. AMSC’s press release did not put a dollar value on the order. The company said that it expects to ship all of these systems to Inox in 2012. This is the fourth volume order that AMSC has received from Inox in the past two years.

Rockland Trust will be a sponsor of the New Balance Falmouth Road Race

Rockland Trust, a bank with about $5 billion in assets and a network that includes 67 retail branches, said it will be the Official Bank & Presenting Sponsor of the Men’s and Women’s Wheelchair Division of the 2012 New Balance Falmouth Road Race. The 40th running of the race is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 12. More than 11,000 runners and wheelchair athletes are expected to participate.

Chafee says Schilling is ‘stonewalling’

Rhode Island governor Lincoln Chafee said Tuesday that former Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling’s troubled video game company has been “stonewalling” state officials trying to find out what happened to the company. “There’s been a lot of stonewalling going on,” Chafee said on former Providence Mayor Buddy Cianci’s radio talk show on WPRO-AM. “It’s been difficult to deal with them.”

Galvin investigating Facebook IPO

Secretary of the Commonwealth William F. Galvin said Tuesday his office issued a subpoena to Morgan Stanley in connection with alleged discussions by one of the Wall Street broker’s analysts with certain investors in advance of Facebook’s initial public stock offering last week.
