State okays new hospital licenses for Lahey Clinic and Northeast Health Systems

The state Public Health Council voted Wednesday to grant new hospital licenses for Lahey Clinic of Burlington and Northeast Health System of Beverly, giving them a key regulatory approval in their bid to form a merged hospital network that would stretch from the northwestern Boston suburbs to Cape Ann. The council’s approval followed formal merger votes by the boards of Lahey and Northeast to create a new nonprofit umbrellas organization called Lahey Health System.

Bruins banner needs a temporary home; fans can tweet suggestions to the TD Garden

The Bruins Stanley Cup banner is going on a road trip, and the Celtics World Championship banner from 2008 will be along for the ride. Where those banners will hang over the next few days is being determined by votes made via Twitter and Facebook, said the TD Garden, the home arena for both teams. The garden is a big believer in social media promotional campaigns, and finding temporary homes for the banners is the garden’s latest social media effort.

New Balance details Brighton plans

Athletic shoe giant New Balance released detailed plans Wednesday for a new Brighton world headquarters that will include at least four new buildings with offices, restaurants, a hotel, and a sprawling sports complex that may offer everything from ice hockey to tennis. The company filed a detailed proposal with Boston city officials, kicking off a months long process to review the 14-acre development project off Guest Street. The tallest buildings would be between 16 and 20 stories in height.

Massachusetts economy grew at slower pace in 2011 than first thought as UMass revises data

The Massachusetts economy last year grew at significantly slower pace than originally thought, expanding at roughly the same rate as the rest of the nation last year, the University of Massachusetts reported Wednesday. Forecasters now believe the state’s economy grew at an annual rate of 1.8 percent in 2011, instead of the 2.9 percent first reported in UMass’s quarterly journal MassBenchmarks. The national economy, meanwhile, grew at a rate of 1.6 percent.

OneUnited Bank is reviewing bankruptcy filing by historic Roxbury church

OneUnited Bank said Wednesday that it is reviewing the bankruptcy filing from Charles Street African Methodist Episcopal Church, the bank’s first comment on the historic Roxbury church’s latest action. Members of the Charles Street AME voted Tuesday night to file for federal bankruptcy protection, heading off OneUnited Bank’s plan to auction the historic congregation’s property this week.

Delta Shuttle changing departure times

Delta Air Lines said it will change the departure times of its shuttle service, a change it claims will be more convenient for Boston business travelers. Scheduled to begin March 25, the departure times for the Delta Shuttle between LaGuardia and Boston will be on the hour. Previously, flights departed on the half hour from the Marine Air Terminal at LaGuardia Airport in New York. According to Delta, customers will benefit from earlier departure times, especially for the first flight of the day.

Jordan’s Furniture is bringing back its Monster Hit promotion

Jordan’s Furniture announced Wednesday that it will once again team up with the Boston Red Sox to offer its Monster Hit promotion this season. If a Red Sox player hits the Jordan’s sign in Fenway Park during a game between July 16 and Sept. 26, customers could win free furniture. Customers who buy anything at a Jordan’s store starting Wednesday can qualify for the promotion.

Warren Group: Mass. foreclosure activity jumps in February

The number of Massachusetts homeowners who received notice from lenders that they were going into foreclosure more than doubled in February following a slowdown in foreclosure activity last year, the Warren Group reported Wednesday. Last month, there were 1,394 foreclosure starts in the Bay State, up from 694 in February 2011, said the Warren Group, a Boston firm that tracks local real estate activity. In February 2012, the number of Massachusetts homeowners who lost their properties to foreclosure was 736, up 41 percent from February 2011.

Workers plan union rally to pressure Verizon

Unionized Verizon Communications Inc. workers will march in downtown Boston Thursday to pressure on the company to sign a new collective bargaining agreement. The march, which is part of a “national day of action” by the unions against Verizon, is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. in Dewey Square and continue to Verizon headquarters on Franklin Street. The two sides have been negotiating since last June on the terms of a new agreement, which expired in August.

Tweet guru Dom Sagolla to address Becker College graduates

Becker College said Dom Sagolla --- a.k.a. Twitter User 9 --- will deliver its commencement address May 14 at the Hanover Theatre in downtown Worcester. Sagolla is a Twitter co-creator and the author of “140 Characters: A Style Guide for the Short Form.” The college added that it plans to bestow upon Sagolla an honorary doctorate degree of humane letters for “his innovative contributions to the rapidly changing modes of global communication.”

Charles Street AME Church to file for bankruptcy to block OneUnited’s foreclosure action

With their lender unwilling to negotiate or halt foreclosure proceedings, members of the Charles Street African Methodist Episcopal Church voted Tuesday night to file for federal bankruptcy protection, heading off OneUnited Bank’s plan to auction the historic congregation’s property this week. At a special meeting held at the Roxbury church Tuesday evening, the estimated 250 members in attendance voted to proceed with a Chapter 11 reorganization filing, to forestall the threatened sale of the church on Thursday, the church’s lawyer, Ross Martin, said
